Biography

Stemming from research into analogue photography and its development, as well as various writings by Benjamin and Baudrillard, I constructed a conceptual basis for this project. The focus will not just be on the photographs themselves, but also how they are displayed and its effect on aura and emotional response. With the completely unaltered, non-digital medium format images, I intend to create a sense of aura, through the slow and methodical process that is involved with taking the shot itself, the unique place in time occupied by the uniqueness of the individuals in front of the lens, and the reactions and interactions between myself, them, and the camera. This is furthered by the developing process, which, requires further temporal interaction, in another place entirely, before I have a finished image. Finally, I believe that simply by using an older camera, which in its time has captured many memories, emotions, and unique moments, the final images will have traces of historic aura embedded within their physical existence. The vestiges of time itself, captured metaphysically in the instrument.
